In this collection
I propose a repertoire of marches, melodies and dances from Brittany adapted
for the Highland bagpipes.
The musical notation is in keeping with the style of the music and will
give you precise indications of the ornements and where to play them, but
these are just examples among the great many possible variants. The CD
reflects these vast possibilities and you will hear the ornements that
are noted, but also melodic, rhythmic and technical variants. This is just
one point of view. The same applies to the organisationof the suites played.
You can reorganise them, taking tunes out, or changing the order...
Of course with the dances you should not mix different types of dance within
the same set.
You can choose to follow the written tunes and ornements precisely, or
to vary your style using elements from my interpretation.
But in the end it is you own personal interpretation that counts!
On the CD, certain tunes are played on bagpipes in C. This instrument is
a Breton adaptation of the Highland pipes. It is possible to play the tunes
as they are written on Bb pipes, or to transpose them one tone down, in
which case you should flatten all the Ds to Db.
