Why
a new breton dancing guide?
There are a great many collections of dance notes published by different
confederations of breton dancers, all presented in different ways, and with
the aim of teaching and analysing all and everything which has ever been
collected or danced… This vast amount of material is often difficult
and complicated to understand and use, and many errors have often slipped
in along the way.
The explanations are easy to understand
This is one of the reasons why we have decided to write this book, in order
to pass on our view of the main dances of Brittany. We have taken care to
ensure that the explanations are easy to understand to help you revise or
learn new dances, to understand how they work and to memorise them.
Cultural notions
Our main aim has been to present the different techniques and styles as
correctly as possible, but also adding to them basic cultural notions about
the geography of the regions, the sociological and historical context, to
help you understand the styles.
Dance tunes
Dance would have difficulties existing without music. So we have included
examples of dance tunes in order to help explain the dances, and form a
link to the dance step explanations.
